Robertson Shares Dressing Room Thoughts on Carragher’s Critique of Salah

Andy Robertson has opened up about the feelings within the Liverpool dressing room towards club legend Jamie Carragher, particularly following Carragher’s critical comments aimed at Mohamed Salah.

With Salah’s contract expiring at the end of the season and no fresh offers from the club executives, the Egyptian international expressed his frustration in a rare interview with Mail Sport after netting twice in Liverpool’s thrilling 3-2 victory over Southampton. He revealed that he felt ‘more out than in’, which sparked a strong reaction, especially from the former Liverpool defender.

During Monday Night , Carragher did not hold back, describing Salah’s remarks as ‘selfish’. In a subsequent conversation with CBS Sports, Robertson acknowledged the tension in the dressing room, jokingly stating, “He is Carragher! I’ve had a bit of a tough time in there this week, that’s for sure!”

While Carragher critiqued Salah for his comments, he was quick to express his disappointment in the 32-year-old striker. He explained on CBS Sports, “There have clearly been discussions about a new contract, but there’s a significant gap in valuation between Salah’s camp and Liverpool’s. The reason there’s been no formal offer is that Salah is likely to reject anything put forward. I’d hope both sides can negotiate a middle ground. However, the interview from Salah disappointed me. Looking ahead, Liverpool have matches against Real Madrid and Manchester City, and Salah’s off-field issues could distract the team.

“Salah, who has been put in the mixed zone just twice in seven years, needs to focus more on the game. In Southampton’s match, he brilliantly secured the win for Liverpool, and yet continues to make cryptic comments through his agent. It’s selfish behavior and shows a lack of respect for the football club,” Carragher articulated.

Recent reports indicated Liverpool had rejected a staggering £150 million offer from Saudi side Al-Ittihad, where Salah would have earned a jaw-dropping £1.25 million-a-week salary.

As Salah’s future remains uncertain, he reiterated, “We are nearing December, and there have been no talks about my staying at the club. I love the fans, and they love me, but my future isn’t in my hands, nor theirs.”

Furious Reds supporters expressed their outrage at the club’s owners, deeming their lack of action as ‘shameful’. Despite these controversies, Salah has maintained impressive form this season under new manager Arne Slot, scoring 12 goals in 19 matches.

Liverpool’s recent comeback victory against Southampton also solidified their position at the pinnacle of the league, stretching their lead to eight points, with Salah shining as the star of the match.
