The proposed sexual life education program which must soon be made official”as is is not acceptable“, declared Wednesday November 27 the Minister Delegate for Academic Success Alexandre Portier in the Senate.
Initially promised in 2023 by the former Minister of Education Pap Ndiaye for the start of the 2024 school year, this project, which is the subject of an offensive from conservative circles, must be presented to trade union organizations in December.
Unsuitable content
Associations are already campaigning against the project by circulating petitions. Sos education and its committee of experts made up of doctors, pediatricians, child psychiatrists and researchers do not hesitate to use shocking phrases like “at school, teach me splits, not ejaculation“. According to the members of the association, this teaching has no place in school or at least not before the age of 12. They consider that it is not “the interests of the child.“
According to the national information and support portal for education professionals Educsol, “School has a specific role in the individual and social construction of children and adolescents and in preparing them for their future adult life. Its action is complementary to the primary role played by families“. So, “sexuality education at school promotes learning about otherness, social rules, laws and common values“, we can read on the national portal.
Unsuitable content as well as potential abuses are highlighted by detractors of the proposed program. The Minister of National Education, Anne Genetet, defends the latter, but insists on the consultations still underway.
