Lamia Boumhdi, the Congolese coach of TP Mazembe, confirmed that she is very happy about achieving the Women’s African Champions League title, as the first Moroccan and Arab coach to achieve this achievement, explaining that her happiness increased because the coronation was achieved in her country, Morocco.
Lamia added, in a statement exclusively to Al-Youm 24, that the Royal Army was supported by its large fans in the final match, which made her warn her players about this matter, given that the match was very different from the previous ones, noting that she returned to warn the players between the two halves to avoid a repeat. Scenario for the group stage match, especially since Sanaa Masoudi’s teammates could return the result at any moment.
Boumhdi explained that she asked the players to remain highly focused throughout the match, for fear of the military women’s comeback in the result, as was the case in the first round match, which they succeeded in, so she urged them to continuously put pressure on the Royal Army’s defenses in search of adding a second goal. They sealed the result and the title, which they were able to do with continued pressure, but they wasted a torrent of scoring opportunities.
The Congolese Mazembe coach indicated, in her statement to Al-Youm24 website, that the Royal Army remains a strong team and always plays the roles presented, not to mention that it always participates in the African Champions League, so it remains a candidate to win the title.
Lamia Boumhdi concluded her statements by emphasizing that her training outside the Kingdom of Morocco will give her great professional experience, which she will crystallize and one day bring to Morocco, by supervising one of the national teams, or the Moroccan women’s national team.
The Royal Army had failed to achieve its second continental title in its history, following a 1-0 defeat against Congolese TP Mazembe, in the match that took place last Saturday, on the grounds of Al-Abdi Stadium in El Jadida, for the final of the African Women’s Champions League.
Boumhdi previously supervised the Moroccan women’s national team for under-17 and under-20 years, and the latter won a bronze medal in the African Games, which Morocco hosted in 2019.
The former Moroccan international also supervised the Wydad Women’s Sports Club, as well as the training of female players in the Mohammed VI Football Complex, within the framework of the “Study and Sports” programme.
