Vendée Globe, the surprising occupation of this skipper

What do the Vendée Globe skippers do during the race? Between two maneuvers or between two naps, Benjamin Dutreux (Guyot Environnement) found the time to watch the performance of Stade Brestois in Barcelona in the Champions League.

Do you sometimes wonder what Vendée Globe skippers do during their days, during the (rare) moments when they have nothing to do on their boat? Some, like Benjamin Dutreux, find time to watch football. Thus, the skipper of Guyot Environnement kept a close eye on the meeting between FC Barcelona and Stade Brestois on Tuesday evening.

Dutreux presents himself as a supporter of FC , which gives him free time during the week. But he took a liking to the Finistère club, which is also sponsored by Guyot Environnement. “They made me love , and I follow their Champions League adventure to the fullest. It's a beautiful story, Little Thumb among the big ones. I'm on the job”confides the 34-year-old skipper.

Dutreux even responded to RMC's call, making a quick phone call to speak live in the After.
“Precisely, I am heading towards the Cape of Good Hope, I am in the South Atlantic, I am sailing between Brazil and South Africa. Right in the middle of the ocean. I tried to watch the match, there were still a lot of cuts, but I was able to follow the main events of the match »he said.

A debrief of Barça-Brest, with the sound of the waves in the background

The navigator even launched into a real debrief of the meeting. “The third goal hurt a little, the penalty too at the start, but I think they still fought well. At no time did they give up.”he remembered, while we could hear, behind his voice, the incessant noises which accompany the skippers in the South Seas, that of the “waves that hit against the boat, against the carbon. »

After this little footballing parenthesis, Benjamin Dutreux described the hours that awaited him, during the night from Tuesday to Wednesday. “I won't be long before I take a little nap of 1 hour, 1 hour 30 minutes. I set lots of alarms. If the wind changes direction, if there are boats that I pass, it will ring. Otherwise, I take a 1.5 hour nap, and I go outside to re-trim the sails if necessary. And then I'm going to go back and take another little nap, if I need to recover a little.”he detailed.

For his second Vendée Globe, Benjamin Dutreux is currently 14th in the ranking. It is not among the favorites of the event, and is rather compared to Stade Brestois in the Champions League. His goal? “Enter the Top 10.” The Brestois would also sign to do as well.
