Former president of Raja, Mohamed Aouzal, placed in preventive detention in Oukacha

Former Raja president Mohamed Aouzal is expected to spend his first night in Oukacha. He was referred, Tuesday, before the King’s Prosecutor at the Court of First Instance of Casablanca who submitted him, in turn, to the investigating judge of the same court for investigation for acts of breach of trust and bad checks, learned Le360 from judicial sources. An arrest warrant was issued for his son, Khalid Aouzal.

For several years, the Aouzal family has been facing legal troubles, linked to the setbacks of their company, African Insurance Consulting and Brokerage (ACECA), placed in compulsory liquidation in May 2023. A few months earlier, it had been withdrawn approval based on a decision by the Insurance and Social Security Control Authority (ACAPS).

The presentation of securities without provision was also among the grievances formulated by the policeman of the insurance market, hence the criminal proceedings launched against the two main managers of the company. Mohamed Aouzal, CEO of the ACECA group, was notably targeted by payment actions, including that from a major local bank, which alone recognized a debt of 35 million dirhams. Placed in safeguard procedure since November 2021, the declared amount of receivables accumulated by the insurance brokerage specialist reached more than 236 million dirhams.

Apart from his setbacks with the ACECA company, Mohamed Aouzal is an emblematic figure of national sport. In 1989, he was elected president of the Raja club with which he won the African Champion Clubs’ Cup the same year. He was also president of the National Group (GNF) from 1998 to 2010, vice-president of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) between 1998 and 2009, and president of the Royal Moroccan Athletics Federation (FRMA) of 2000 to 2006.
