Mathias, brother of Paul Pogba, the star of the French national team that won the FIFA World Cup in 2018, appeared before the court on Tuesday, along with 5 other people, in a blackmail case that targeted the French star two years ago.
The case sessions began in the Paris Criminal Court in the absence of the former Manchester United and Juventus star, who decided not to attend, and the trial proceedings are expected to continue for one week.
The judge ordered the trial of the six defendants after an investigation into Pogba’s blackmail from his brother Mathias and a group of childhood friends.
Mathias is facing charges of attempted extortion and criminal conspiracy after he participated with 5 others in demanding Paul Pogba for a sum of money worth $13.6 million and constantly threatening him, demanding that Pogba help them after he became a big star.
Matías Pogba and the five others are also charged with attempted extortion by resorting to violence, kidnapping, and imprisonment, in addition to criminal conspiracy.
Defense lawyers Yves Leberquier and Karim Morin asked the court – today, Tuesday – to summon Paul Pogba for questioning as well.
Investigations stated that Paul Pogba paid 100,000 euros to his brother and his assistants.
French media reports stated that Paul Pogba (31 years old) also informed the investigating authorities that the defendants wanted to tarnish his reputation by claiming that he had asked for the help of a magician to harm his colleague in the French national team, Kylian Mbappe, which the French star also denied.
Mathias Pogba blew up the scenes of this case by publicly threatening his brother on social media by publishing dangerous information about his brother, Mbappe, and Rafaela Pimenta, Paul Pogba’s agent.
Matías Pogba was also a football player, but he spent most of his career with obscure clubs in Europe.
