Baby shows ‘Guns Up’ in ultrasound for Denver City doctor, Texas Tech alum

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – From the Matador Song, to Raider Red and the Masked Rider, tradition means everything to Texas Tech fans, students and alumni. Now, the “Guns Up” has been seen from under stadium lights, to the streets of New York, and even on an ultrasound.

Dr. Scott Frankfather was working at his clinic, the West Texas Medical Center in Denver City, when this baby made it clear who they’re rooting for.

“The next thing you know, baby throws up the the ‘Guns Up’ sign and it’s a very clear distinct ‘Guns Up’ in the picture,” Dr. Frankfather said. “And I said, look, a future Red Raider and the parents both just busted out laughing. They were so excited.”

The new parents didn’t go to Texas Tech, but the teeny tiny “Guns Up” is big for Dr. Frankfather.

“My wife and I both bleed red and black. She was the Masked Rider for Tech, and so, she really bleeds red and black,” he said.

He and his wife went to Tech for undergrad, before he graduated from the med school and completed his residency there. The Ob/Gyn has delivered around 4,500 babies over the last two decades.

Working in rural medicine, he’s often caring for people he knows. So, when he sees moments like this one, he says they’re extra special.

“It lets us know that these babies are, you know, they’re alive. They’re little humans in there. There’s so much potential there. And it, you know, just makes you think of the potential for this baby that maybe this baby will grow up to be a a Red Raider. Maybe this baby will be a doctor someday,” he said.

Boy or girl is yet to be seen, but all Red Raiders know who this fan is cheering for.

“He’s saying Wreck ‘Em Tech. Some Red Raiders are born Red Raiders and some Red Raiders are Red Raiders before birth,” Dr. Frankfather said.

Dr. Frankfather told us this has actually happened to him once before. He framed this “Guns Up” and it’s now in his office.
