Manchester United battles Liverpool for a left-back

Manchester United are reportedly hot on the heels of Wolves left-back Rayan Ait Nouri, who looks like he could be a perfect fit for new manager Ruben Amorim and a target from Liverpool..

The 23-year-old has the qualities to play as a wing-back in Amorim’s tactical system, and it will be interesting to see if Manchester United can secure a deal for him for less than his market value due to his contract situation.

Ryan Nouri ignites the conflict between Liverpool and Manchester United

According to The Sun newspaper, the Red Devils are on alert because Ait Nouri’s current contract expires in the summer of 2026, which means that Wolves will certainly be under pressure to sell him while they still can in January or next summer, in order to avoid losing him on a free transfer in the summer. Just under two years.

United could sign a new left-back anyway after the ongoing fitness issues of Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malcia, with Ait Nouri’s form during his time in the Premier League showing he could certainly be a fit for the Red Devils.

However, Liverpool have also long been linked with Ait Nouri, with Insider recently reporting that the Merseyside giants were in the hunt for the Algerian international.

Liverpool left-back Andrew Robertson is arguably starting to look like he is in decline, so it might be a good idea for the Reds to pounce on a young talent like Ait Nouri in the position.

Arne Slott is doing a fantastic job at Liverpool, so it would make sense for Ait Nouri to look at that and think he would like to be part of it, while a move to Old Trafford would probably represent a bigger risk.

Amorim has inherited a tough job at United and will need signings to help turn things around, but at the same time it will likely be difficult for him, at least initially, to convince the best players to join the team under the current window.
