After the bizarre match in Manchester, captain Quinten Timber appeared in front of the cameras at Ziggo Sport. The captain couldn’t believe it yet, but is extremely proud of his team.
“I don’t want to say ‘it’s just a point’, it’s a hard-fought point, when you’re 3-0 down you no longer expect to be able to come back. At 3-1 I already got a feeling. Then you make the 3-2 and the 3-3, yes really great for the team.” Timber acknowledges that the start was very difficult: “The first 15 minutes were very tough, then we were really pushed back. At a certain point we started to put pressure on and had a few chances. We started to play more and more football towards half time. and so we went into halftime, with the idea of what we could achieve by pressing at the right moments. Then of course you still get that penalty…”
Shortly after the break, however, things went wrong: “In the second half you will put some pressure and you may be just 1 or 2 seconds late and you will immediately get two shots.” After the 3-0, the captain called the team together: “That is the moment when you have to start talking to each other. We were going to play a little closer to each other and try something from there. Then everything has to work out and go well and that’s what happened.” .”
Timber praises his team: “This is mentality, no matter what happens, we don’t give up, we play as a family. We’re going to have to suffer, we did that and we came back. I don’t really realize it yet, because you 3-0 behind.” The Rotterdam fans saw another great European away match: “Really enjoyable for them. I think they go crazy every Champions League away match, we also feel that on the field. That is our twelfth man.”
