Lakewood Mayor Wendi Strom and City Council members helped GFiber officially open its Colorado headquarters Monday in Belmar, Downtown Lakewood, with a ribbon cutting, marking a milestone in the city’s efforts to bring more high-speed digital accessibility to residents and businesses. While Lakewood is the first city in the state to receive the GFiber network, this new headquarters oversees the installation of the network in other cities in the metro area, state and region.
After a competitive selection process, GFiber chose to establish its Colorado headquarters in Lakewood because of the city’s dynamic location, its ability to become an integral community member and the strong city relationships with economic development, public works and leadership staff. Housed in prime space in Lakewood’s downtown, the headquarters represents Lakewood’s commitment to economic development and fostering a vibrant local economy.
“We’re really excited to be part of the Lakewood community,” said Alberto Garcia, GFiber’s government and community affairs manager for Colorado, Idaho and Utah. “It’s a real testament to the vision of the leadership of the mayor, of City Council, of city staff that they wanted to bring this additional internet option to Colorado. Lakewood was our first city, it was the first place we signed, it’s the first place we’re serving customers, and now it’s going to be our home.”
Lakewood residents have already begun receiving GFiber’s network, with the first customers going live in September. The rollout continues across neighborhoods, delivering more competition and choice for high-speed internet to the community. Updates are available at Lakewood.org/GoogleFiber.
GFiber’s headquarters faces Belmar’s Plaza, offering employees easy access to all that downtown Lakewood offers. Highlighted with a Colorado mural painted by a local artist, the headquarters contains hallmarks of Colorado throughout it with skis and snowshoes as decorative elements and conference rooms named for Pikes Peak and other well-known landmarks.
