Teachers, worried about their future and opposed to the budget cuts envisaged by the new MR-Engagés majority, demonstrated throughout Wallonia on Tuesday.
Liège, Namur, La Louvière, Charleroi: teachers were everywhere this Tuesday to shout their anger at the new measures proposed by the Walloon government, made up of the MR and the Engagés.
Thousands of teachers walked the streets and the unions do not hesitate to speak of a “historic” mobilization, particularly in the province of Liège. Around 7,000 teachers marched this morning.
Here is a concrete example: the percentage of closed gates in secondary schools today approached 100% in the Liège province. A union official explained that to find such mobilization, “it was necessary to go back to the major strikes of May 90 when the sector rose up against a reform of the law on the financing of education“.
This common front strike was therefore followed throughout the French-speaking world. In the province of Luxembourg, we are also talking about historical mobilization. For the future, the common union front meets at the end of the week to develop an agenda.
