After an autumn season marked by heavy precipitation, the first weather forecasts for winter are taking shape: we know what awaits us!
The month of November brought the return of snow and significant temperature variations were noted. The fall was, more generally, punctuated by heavy precipitation. What will it be like for the coming months and the start of winter? A strong warm spell is already perceptible at the end of November and this should continue at the beginning of December.
According to the trends announced by Météo-France for the first week of December, “temperatures slightly above seasonal norms are expected”. This being said, according to The Weather Channela “temporary deterioration accompanied by a drop in temperatures” is expected around December 5. The rainfall would still remain very poor over the whole month. Calm and dry weather should set in in mid-December as well as during the holiday holidays.
“Overall, the month of December could be mild and relatively lacking in precipitation,” predicts The Weather Channel. A little freshness may however be felt at night with possible freezing fog. The weather does not look very wintery, and snow may quickly run out in the mountains for those who were hoping to ski at Christmas. It could be limited to high altitude.
In its seasonal forecasts, The Weather Channel gives the first trends for the start of 2025. For January, temperatures would be within the seasonal averages. The month is predicted to be wetter than December but this should remain on a fairly small scale. Once again, snow cover at altitude could be limited. For February then, the weather could remain seasonal and relatively calm, “without any particular signal”. It is still too early to have more details.
“At the scale of the December-January-February quarter, the temperatures forecast in France should remain higher than the seasonal averages (based on the last 30 years) with a difference close to +0.5° to +1°C. precipitation would, for their part, be quite close to the averages over the three months, indicating a slowdown in rainy episodes”, summarizes The Weather Channel. This scenario remains to be confirmed in view of the anticipation of the forecasts, which can therefore still evolve.
