How will he celebrate his sixth gold medal? Martin Fourcade should win a sixth medal after the suspension confirmed this Tuesday, November 26, 2024 for doping of Russian Evgeny Ustyugov, Olympic mass start champion at the Vancouver Games in 2010.

Martin Fourcade, who came second in the race, should therefore collect a gold charm. This gold medal would allow him to (re)become the French athlete with the most gold medals in the history of the Olympic Games (six), ahead of Teddy Riner.

However, Evgeny Ustyugov “can appeal this decision to the Swiss Federal Court (TSF). However, such appeals are only authorized for specific procedural reasons,” specifies the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

Evgeny Ustyugov disqualified from four years of competition

This Tuesday, the Court of Arbitration for Sport confirmed a sanction taken in 2020, disqualifying Evgeny Ustyugov from all competitions in which he competed between 2010 and 2014, the year marking the end of his career.

The CAS justifies this decision by anomalies on his biological passport which would violate the anti-doping regulations. In his defense, the Russian explained that he had a naturally high hemoglobin level. Inadmissible for the CAS which confirms the sanction.

Evgeny Ustyugov is therefore disqualified from the 2010 Vancouver Olympic mass start where he won the gold medal. This benefits Martin Fourcade, who is very committed to the fight against doping. A nice symbol for the retired skier: that of a rewarded fight.
