Crisis in the Baar civil registry office: public prosecutors are investigating

Things are boiling in the Baar district registry office: “irregularities” led to an employee reporting himself. Now the canton is drawing conclusions.

The Baar district civil status office must submit itself to the canton’s administration with immediate effect. Behind this lies a decision by the Zug government council. On Friday, he decided to transfer the tasks of the affected civil registry office “immediately and in full” to the cantonal supervisory authority. The canton’s Interior Directorate announced this on Monday. The services are therefore provided on an interim basis by the canton.

According to a statement, irregularities at the registry office on Baarer Rathausstrasse led to an employee reporting himself. A lack of human resources also led to this step.

Public prosecutor’s office is investigating

The public prosecutor’s office is now also involved. She investigates. For reasons of privacy, the canton cannot provide any further information about the investigation, as a spokesman for the Interior Directorate told Zentralplus. The voluntary disclosure was submitted on November 15th and the Zug government was informed about it at its meeting four days later.

The municipalities of Baar, Menzingen and Neuheim belong to the Baar district registry office. Two people plus an apprentice are currently working in the affected registry office. The remaining employees can continue to work – but must now adhere to the canton’s instructions.

Births, marriages and other certifications would be processed as usual. According to the canton, there are no restrictions for the population. The supervisory authority will ensure that the tasks and certifications for these communities continue to be fulfilled.
