“There were trees on the ground every 200 meters, we had to bend down to avoid electrical wires”, “real carnage”, “around fifty trees on the ground”, “major damage”… The large park of Parilly between Bron and Lyon, in the metropolis, was hit by very violent winds from storm Bert which caused numerous tree falls.
More than fifty trees fell to the ground, uprooted, due to the force of the wind. The strongest gusts were measured at Lyon-Bron (125km/h) and Lyon-St Exupéry (126km/h), according to Météo France.
The park closed to the public as a precaution
Since 7:30 this morning, the Parilly and Lacroix-Laval parks “are closed to the public”, explained the Metropolis in a press release this Monday. Parking lot access terminals are raised to prevent vehicles from parking. To ensure that the closure was taken into account, guards patrolled the two parks all morning to inform and evacuate users still present.
Numerous tree falls have been reported in several municipalities in the metropolis, in Tassin-la-Demi-Lune, Écully, Villeurbanne, Bron, Mions, Oullins-Pierre Bénite, in the 6th, 9th and 5th arrondissements of Lyon.
Trees also fell on the cables of several TCL tram lines in the metropolis and on the rail network. The regional SNCF indicates around 6:30 p.m. that there are no more trees on the tracks in the Lyon region and that traffic has been able to resume.
