The Austrian ski star Marcel Hirscher has not ruled out resigning. When asked by a journalist whether he would give up the project, according to the newspaper “Blick”, Hirscher said surprisingly openly: “It could be. I was already thinking about that yesterday.” However, the eight-time overall World Cup winner left room for interpretation: “In any case, I was there today. So let’s see how it develops.”

Hirscher was eliminated early from the slalom in Gurgl (Austria) at the weekend. After a good start, he couldn’t cope with the slope. “The first ten goals were cool. Then it got icy – something was wrong,” he explained. Since his comeback, Hirscher has devoted himself intensively to the coordination of materials, but the results have fallen short of his expectations.

Hirscher had already missed the second run a week ago. Hirscher, who is now starting for the Netherlands, is unsurprisingly foregoing the upcoming trip to North America. Instead, he wants to use the coming weeks to thoroughly analyze his situation. “The next three weeks will be very important because like today I’m a little out of place,” he admitted.

Cross-country skiing athlete Alina Meier announced on Instagram that she recently suffered a “serious collision” that resulted in a concussion and two displaced teeth. According to her own statements, she spent the last few days resting and taking light walks. “This is what the last few days have looked like: sleep, relax and a few simple walks,” Meier continued. She also posted a photo in which she can be seen wearing a dental brace.

Despite the setbacks, the athlete is optimistic and hopes to be able to start training again soon. “The good thing is that it’s getting better day by day. I’m keeping my fingers crossed to get back to training soon and start the season when the time is right,” she continued. Numerous fans and colleagues wish her a speedy recovery on the platform.

Former ski racer Maria Höfl-Riesch has critically assessed the return plans of ski stars Marcel Hirscher and Lindsey Vonn. “I can’t understand it,” said the 39-year-old in an interview with “web.de”. At the same time, she paid respect to the two big names in skiing: “When superstars like this come back, it’s always good for the sport.”

However, the three-time Olympic champion categorically rules out a return to the slopes for herself. As she explained, she had been asked about it in jest from time to time, but she didn’t have any serious thoughts about it. “I would never do that,” emphasized Höfl-Riesch. After ten years away from competition, she sees no reason to resume her career.

Her impressive career, crowned by two Olympic victories in Vancouver 2010 and another gold medal in Sochi 2014, ended shortly after her third triumph. This decision appears to be irrevocable to this day. With regard to the challenges that come with a comeback, Höfl-Riesch issued a clear warning. Such a step is always risky: “If it goes well, it will be a sensation,” she admitted, but the chances of success are slim. “You have to be that realistic.”
