The resignations of Ciolacu and Ciucă represent normality / Georgescu will have an opponent in me. Romania does not need a man with legionary approaches/ Lasconi must get his hands on the book

The former president of Romania, Traian Băsescu, commented for Digi24 the result of the first presidential election. He says that Marcel Ciolacu and Nicolae Ciucă could do nothing but resign after the below-expected results they obtained.

“The resignations of Ciolacu and Ciucă represent normality in the parties. The only incorrect thing is what Ciolacu does. He should also submit his mandate as prime minister to Iohannis, because otherwise he maintains this alliance that has done a lot of harm to Romanians,” said Traian Băsescu.

The former head of state explained that he knows Călin Georgescu and knows how he thinks, and for this reason he will have a declared opponent in him.

“I have met Călin Georgescu before, he will not have a supporter in me, Romania is a European country and does not need identity doubts. The population does not need people who consult with Putin and who believe that legionary values can still be preached today.

Georgescu knows how to read, but his faith has nothing in common with the evolution of European society: family, religion, church. Georgescu is far beyond what can be accepted now in the EU, but also in the interwar period. Legionnaires were not accepted. His faith has nothing to do with modern faith. He will have an opponent in me. Călin Georgescu is not a solution for Romania. I didn't accept him as prime minister in 2010 for these reasons, when the Boc government fell,” said Traian Băsescu.

The former president says that Romania only has the option to vote for Elena Lasconi in the second round of the presidential elections, but he recommended that she seriously study the treaties to which Romania is a party, but also inform herself about the geopolitical situation around the world.

“Ms. Lasconi has another problem. He must get his hands on the book. Until December 21, they must read about the Middle East, the Black Sea, the NATO treaty or the Lisbon treaty”, Traian Băsescu pointed out.

The former president says he was bombarded with calls from European officials after pro-Russian and anti-Western candidate Calin Georgescu made it to the second round of the presidential election.

“Prepared or unprepared, Romania must accept this. Romania does not need a man with legionary approaches. I don't want to tell you how many phone calls I received today from the European Commission and the European Parliament for clarifications.

The cause of what is happening now is deep corruption. Romania returned to a prime minister who administers the country's budget as if it were his own money. Those in Brussels couldn't believe that something like this was possible”, detailed Traian Băsescu.
