“Love at first sight before Christmas”: the story and the casting

Ethan Holt is a project manager at Bellingham, a large real estate construction company. He collaborates with Sean Doyle, an influential executive with dubious methods, ready to do anything to win contracts. Sean tasks Ethan with intimidating Lottie Feldman, a newspaper vendor who refuses to sell her store, even though the developer wants to raze the entire neighborhood. Meanwhile, Joyce, Ethan's wife, reminds him that on December 24, it has been exactly twenty years since they met, stuck in a broken elevator for four hours. They plan to celebrate this anniversary when Ethan returns from his company's Christmas party. However, Sean forces him to stop by Lottie's store to threaten her, a mission Ethan is reluctant to accept. Joyce, worried, advises him not to give in, because it does not correspond to his values. She takes the opportunity to confide in him her desire to return to school to become a lawyer, a costly project to which Ethan is reluctant. He then begins to regret the choices that have shaped his life. What if he had taken the elevator with Sean instead of Joyce? Would he have had a different existence? A mysterious Santa Claus hears her wish and decides to grant it. Ethan wakes up on December 1st, but in an alternate reality: he is now the wealthy co-owner and CEO of Doyle & Holt, living in luxury with a lavish house, a sports car and a prestigious office. But Joyce is no longer his wife. She became a lawyer and represents the Chester Youth Center, an organization that Doyle & Holt seeks to destroy. At first, Ethan relishes his new status, but the absence of Joyce and their adopted children, now separated in foster families, weighs on him. Santa Claus explains to him that he must understand what really matters before Christmas, otherwise he will forget his old life and remain forever stuck in this existence of a wealthy bachelor…
