Barnier judges that the trial “will mark a before and an after” in violence against women

The Prime Minister spoke on the occasion of the International Day to Combat Violence Against Women and as the indictment begins at the Mazan rape trial.

Prime Minister Michel Barnier said he was “convinced” this Monday, November 25, that the Mazan rape trial “will mark somewhere a before and an after” in the fight against violence against women.

“The fight against violence against women requires the entire mobilization of all of society. It is a social issue, a just and necessary fight,” declared the head of government.

Michel Barnier spoke from the Hôtel-Dieu AP-HP in on the occasion of the international day for the elimination of violence against women, a “very serious subject (which) requires unity , intransigence, means, force”.

“I want to tell women that they can count on the mobilization of this government as a whole to be at their side,” added the Prime Minister.

This intervention by the Prime Minister comes as the first requisitions have been made in the Mazan rape trial. For Dominique Pelicot, the prosecution requested the maximum sentence of 20 years of criminal imprisonment for his “despicable actions” against his ex-wife Gisèle Pelicot. 51 men are accused of having raped the latter, drugged by her husband.

On this question of chemical submission, Prime Minister Michel Barnier announced that detection kits will be reimbursed by Health Insurance in several departments on an experimental basis.

“In recent months the French have been deeply marked by the incredible courage of Gisèle Pelicot, this trial affects us all, and we are all awaiting the outcome of this trial with great attention,” the Prime Minister also declared.
