Mazan rape trial: the prosecution requires 20 years against Dominique Pelicot, a “worrying” accused: episode /11 of the Enquêtes podcast

“Out of the ordinary.” This file is “out of the norm”began Jean-François Mayet at the time of his indictment at the Mazan rape trialMonday November 25, 2024. At the heart of the documents, 20,000 photos and videos of one and the same woman, Gisele Pelicot. Body inert, brain disconnected, as if anesthetized to withstand repeated assaults. For 10 years, her husband Dominique drugged her to rape her and have her raped by strangers recruited on the internet.

“That woman was you, Madame Pelicotlaunched the attorney general, turning towards the victim, I salute your dignity, your courage, your admirable resilience, your choice to refuse closed doors.” On this international day for the elimination of violence against women, by a coincidence of the calendar, the representative of the public prosecutor adds: “This trial shakes up our society, highlights the inability of certain men supposedly driven by impulses to be in symmetry with women.” This trial opened a debate “salutary”according to Jean-François Mayet. “The legislator may need to clarify the notion of consent”he asks.

“Perversion and emotional coldness”

After him, Laure Chabaud handles the case of Dominique Pélicot, tried for triple aggravated rape: by spouse, under chemical submission and in a meeting. She chooses to describe one of the videos he compulsively archived and which, for her, is worth more than 1,000 words. One New Year's Eve, Gisèle Pelicot, semi-conscious on her sofa, body and face relaxed, begs her husband to leave her alone. He insists, hearing nothing other than his thirst for sex and submission. The lawyer highlights the perversion and emotional coldness of Dominique Pelicot, beyond his relationship with his wife, which make him an accused “worrisome”she said.

Unsurprisingly, 20 years of imprisonment – the maximum – as well as socio-judicial monitoring and an obligation of care were required against Dominique Pelicot. The sentences for the other accused will vary according to his.
