The Mystery of Amir Abo, the shadow diplomat or the master of illusion?

It is a case that sows confusion and raises many questions. According to an investigation revealed by Libération, Abo Mbacké, better known as “Amir Abo”, now incarcerated for fraud and money laundering, has a Senegalese diplomatic passport. This document, bearing the number 21 PD14881, was issued to him on March 14, 2024, just a few days before the presidential election. A disturbing coincidence.

Born on January 1, 1979 in Ndam (Touba), Amir Abo is described as a complex character. He would have, according to his own statements, denied having presented himself as the special advisor to Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Ben Salman. However, during a search of his home in Sicap-Foire, stickers displaying the inscription “His Excellency Amir Abo / Special Adviser to MBS” were discovered. Asked about their presence, the accused assured that he was seeing these documents for the first time.

The matter takes on a turn all the more complex as possession of a diplomatic passport is not trivial. Who allowed Amir Abo to obtain this precious sesame, synonymous with immunity and privileges? And why was such a document issued so shortly before such a crucial event as the presidential election?

For now, authorities continue to dig into this case. Libération underlines that this discovery highlights potential flaws in the system for issuing diplomatic passports, even though their use must remain strictly regulated.

A scandal which could well reveal unexpected ramifications in the upper echelons of power.
