Kendji Girac spoke fully “for the first time” about the tragic incident which almost cost him his life last April. As a reminder, the singer ofAndalusian shot himself in the chest under the influence of alcohol and drugs on the night of April 21 to 22. A case which was closed by the courts in June, without costing the star any dramatic fallout. As a bonus, Kendji Girac was able to count on the support of his family and his public, despite silence for several weeks during his convalescence.
“I cut myself off from everything for a month. I didn't watch TV or my phone. I really needed to take the time and recharge my batteries,” he revealed to Frédéric Lopez during his appearance on the France 2 show, A Sunday in the countrysidebroadcast yesterday. “The only thing I needed was my daughter, my wife, my family. Obviously, they were there for me at that time. It was love that rebuilt me at an incredible speed. The love of my family, my loved ones, even that of the public. I was supported.”
“A very strong woman”
However, statements about the circumstances of the incident during the investigation raised questions about his relationship and an alleged argument with his wife, Soraya. Rumors that would have affected Eva Alba's mother. “My wife has been there every moment, every moment. She gave me strength and tenderness like never before. She was a little shocked at what was said about her because none of it was true. She is a very strong, wonderful woman, who managed to get me back on my feet,” said Kendji Girac.
Soraya had already spoken out last May on this subject to the Parisian to set the record straight. “Kendji never blackmailed me into suicide, let me be clear. This never existed,” she insisted at the time, adding that her partner had never been “violent” towards her. “Since she left the hospital, we have been together with our daughter, obviously […] The three of us need to get together as a family. How could anyone say that I had left France with our daughter? I don’t understand how such information could have been published.”
With the support of those close to him and the encouragement of his fans after the incident, Kendji Girac released his new album last month, Vivre…, composed with his friend Vianney. The star also announced a tour for her album in 2026.
