The storm Bert blows on Lyon and its region this Monday, November 25, 2024. The Rhône department has been placed on orange alert for violent winds from midnight by Météo France which announces very strong gusts all day.
Many restrictions and measures have been taken as safety measures, in transport but also in public parks. Vigilance is active at least until 6 p.m. and it is recommended to be very vigilant when traveling in the metropolis of Lyon and the Rhône department.
Parks, cemeteries and closed gardens in Lyon and Villeurbanne
Parks, gardens and cemeteries have also been closed since 12 noon on Sunday and are still closed on Monday. The City of Villeurbanne made the same decision. “Due to strong winds exceeding 70 km/h, large parks and cemeteries are closed from 12 p.m. today as well as all day on Monday, November 25,” according to the City of Lyon.
The municipality of Oullins-Pierre-Bénite took the same decision to close its public parks.
The Lyon Christmas market is at a standstill
The Christmas market at Place Carnot in Lyon closed this Sunday afternoon and is not allowed to reopen this Monday for security reasons.
The market opened only three days ago, Friday, and is scheduled to run until December 24 in the Perrache district.
Many TER lines at a standstill
The SNCF has decided to stop the circulation of numerous TER lines in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region.
Note that traffic was interrupted on line 32 due to a tree that fell on the tracks between Villars-les-Dombes and Saint-Paul-de-Varax. Diversions via Ambérieu-en-Bugey had to be carried out for the TER from Bourg-en-Bresse to Lyon. Traffic was able to gradually resume after 10 a.m.
Restrictions for heavy goods vehicles
In departments 03-42-43-63-69, vehicles weighing more than 7.5 tonnes are not authorized to carry out overtaking maneuvers on national roads and motorways from midnight and until the lifting of the orange vigilance, announced the regional prefecture.
More than 110 km/h wind at Lyon-Bron
In connection with the “Bert” depression, “a fairly widespread episode of southerly wind continues until Monday evening with gusts reaching 110 km/h in the plains, sometimes 120 km/h in certain sectors. The peak of activity is expected at the end of the night until midday on Monday,” Météo France announces in its latest bulletin.
Since midnight, notable gusts have been observed in Clermont-Ferrand 101km/h, Superbesse (63) 120km/h, Le Puy 116 km/h, Saint-Etienne 110km/h, Saint-Chamond 114km/h, Lyon-Bron 112km /h, Les Sauvages (Rhône) 134km/h, Reventin (38) 104km/h.
“The main uncertainty which persists concerns the end of the episode in the Gier valley and Givors sector, in the Loire and Rhône departments,” warns Météo France. “Gusts can even reach 120 km/h in the Gier valley and Givors sector. »
The windy episode should end in the late afternoon and early evening in the Gier valley.
