With less than 19% voting options, Marcel Ciolacu set Sunday the negative record of the 34 years of social-democratic elections.
PSD almost always obtained through its candidate more than 30% in the 1st round of the elections for Cotroceni.
Ion Iliescu obtained 85% in 1990, 47% in 1992 and 36% in 2000, all elections won in the final. And in 1996, when he lost to Emil Constantinescu, the head of the PSD collected 32% in the first round.
Adrian Năstase took 40% of votes in the first round in 2004, Mircea Geoană 31% in 2009 and Victor Ponta 40% in 2014, even though they lost in the 2nd round.
Viorica Dăncilă took 5 years ago, 22.26% of the votes.
In 2024, starting as the clear favorite of the first round, Marcel Ciolacu took 19.5% of the votes and lost to Georgescu by 3% after counting 95% of the votes. The two are separated by almost 300,000 votes. And on Monday morning, the relationship between Ciolacu and Lasconi was overturned. After leading with 500,000 votes, Ciolacu was tied and is now led by the USR candidate. An elimination from the first round of the presidential elections would be unprecedented for the PSD, which has always had a candidate in the second round.
