Remarkable temperatures were recorded during the night of Sunday November 24 to Monday November 25, particularly in the southwest. In many municipalities, the 20°C mark has been crossed.
A summer night, in the middle of November. In several regions, the thermometer has soared in recent hours, displaying summer values in the southwest. This Monday, November 25, at 4 a.m., it was 26°C in Pau, according to data relayed by Météo-Ciel.
Up to 23°C was recorded near Saint-Jean-de-Luz and the Basque Country, but also 19°C in the La Rochelle region, 17°C in Bordeaux. On the Mediterranean rim, 19°C was reported in Perpignan, 15°C in Toulon, 17°C in Sète and even 16°C in Montpellier.
Drop in temperatures during the day
These high nighttime temperatures also affected the northern half of the country: 15°C in Paris and Rouen, 16°C in Dunkirk and 17°C in Tours at 4 a.m. On the other hand, in Brittany the weather was a little cooler: 12°C in Rennes and Brest, but also 10°C in Saint-Brieuc.
But in the southwest, only insomniacs were able to enjoy temperatures worthy of a tropical night. “At daybreak, the thermometer displays between 9 and 13 degrees in general, between 12 and 16 on the Mediterranean shore,” writes Météo-France in its national bulletin.
“In the afternoon, it is only 12 to 14 degrees in a northwestern part of the country. We often expect 15 to 19 degrees in a large southeastern half,” the agency continues.
This Sunday, November 24 was particularly mild in Francedue to a southwesterly current which brought warm air from the Canary Islands. The temperatures thus contrasted sharply with those recorded a few days earlier, close to 0°C and worthy of a full winter.
It is mainly in the southwest and particularly in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques – yet affected by violent winds – that the highest temperatures were recorded. In Navarrenx, the thermometer soared to 28.1°C. In this town of 1,050 souls, we recorded 20°C around 4 a.m. this Monday.
