Olympic six-time gold medallist Emma McKeon has called time on her incredible swimming career, setting up a $2.4m exit plan with partner Cody Simpson.

Ms McKeon told fans on Monday that she was “definitely ready for the next part” of her life, hoping her time in the spotlight will have had “an impact on people’s lives by encouraging them to push hard and go after their dreams”.

Bad news for homebuyers before Christmas

Another big bank slashes interest rates

She and partner Cody Simpson are already well ahead of many people their age, with a $2.4m real estate portfolio – the bulk of which is their jointly owned home on the Gold Coast in Queensland.

The couple put $1.826m down on a five-bedroom house in Labrador, coming up on two years ownership in a matter of weeks, having bought it in January 2023. The home is estimated to have grown in value by around over $280,000 since the couple bought it given how fast prices are rising across South East Queensland.

The large property was newly built for the couple, and has three bathrooms and four car spaces just 750m from the Broadwater.

Features of the “no expense spared design” include a high voided ceiling, floating staircase, glass balustrading, designer kitchen, butler’s pantry, alfresco patio, dual living zones, an 8m by 4m concrete pool, and within 5km of renowned private schools The Southport School and St Hilda’s.

Millions of Aussies can’t afford to live in Australia

Sally Pearson’s heartbreaking fallback plan after job loss

Market estimates show the couple could fetch between $1,100 to $1,300 a week if they rented the house out, which amounts to as much as $67,600 a year

Ms McKeon has also owned another house on the Gold Coast for over six years, a three bedder which was fetching $700 a week rent in 2021 or over $36,000.

At today’s prices, that house could bring in over $50,000 annually given high end rental estimates of $960 a week.

The house is estimated to have increased in value by over half a million dollars since she bought it, a jump of about 80 per cent.

Having both of those properties rented out may be very real options for the couple given Mr Simpson’s musical performance career is taking off again in a new direction. The former pop and swim star set to debut in a theatre production of Guys & Dolls in Sydney next year.

Mr Simpson, whose exes include US entertainment star Miley Cyrus, has been a pillar of support to Ms McKeon through her last Olympic campaign. The pair are among rarefied young Aussie couples managing to hold together in very public relationships.
