If he admits to having been “afraid” of losing the love of the public after voluntarily shooting himself last April, Kendji Girac now says he is “happier than ever”.
From the show's country house A Sunday in the countryside on France 2, Kendji Girac spoke about his reconstruction after the gunshot wound he voluntarily inflicted on himself last April in Biscarosse.
“It feels weird, it’s the first time I’ve talked about it,” he admits with emotion surrounded by Dany Boon, Virginie Grimaldi, and presenter Frédéric Lopez. After the media outpouring, the singer explained that he had “cut himself off from everything” and had not watched television or his phone “for months”.
“I really needed to take the time and recharge my batteries. The only thing I needed was my family, my wife, my daughter,” he says.
What allowed him to rebuild himself? “Simply love”, both from his family, his loved ones and that of the “public”.
A “fear” of losing the public’s love
“I was supported (…) It's just incredible. It allowed me to pick myself up because there are people who adore me, and there, really, I saw it. I I can only thank life for giving me so much strength”, underlines the interpreter of Gypsy Color. After this episode which cost him weeks of convalescence, he still admits to having been “afraid” of losing the love of the public.
Asked about his relationship with his wife, Soraya Miranda, who was present in their caravan the evening of the shooting, Kendji Girac affirms that she was “there every moment”. “At every moment, she gave me strength and tenderness like never before,” he assures, speaking of a “strong” and “wonderful woman”. The singer wants to point out that she was shocked “by what was said about her, because nothing was true”.
Kendji Girac actually shot himself during an argument with his wife. Although he initially claimed to have wanted to shoot to impress his partner who wanted to break up with him, Kendji Girac then told investigators that he “was not aware of what he was doing with this weapon and that he therefore did not want to put pressure on his partner”. Soraya Miranda, for her part, felt that she did not feel like a victim of psychological violence and this procedure was closed without further action.
“Happy as ever”
Now, the singer says he is “happy as ever” with a “flame lit deep in (his) heart which is even bigger than before”.
He claims that this incident was “helpful” to him. “Life has taught me to enjoy every moment. We can learn from our mistakes and come back stronger (…). At the end of the tunnel, there is always this light that will welcome us and enlighten us forever afterwards “, he concluded.
If he will not be able to participate in the “shooting selections for the 2028 Olympic Games”, jokes Dany Boon, the 28-year-old singer is back on the scene. He made his television comeback at the beginning of October on the set of the final of The Voice Kids. For his first appearance on stage since his gunshot wound, he performed If only…single from his new album Vivre….
