Clément Noël showed the importance of confidence in slalom on Sunday, November 24, in Gurgl (Austria). Victorious a week earlier in Levi (Finland), the reigning Olympic champion in the discipline mastered the track better than anyone in the first round, and put a real blow behind the heads of his competitors who did not catch him in the term of the second. He finished ahead of the Swede Kristoffer Jacobsen (+0''43) and the Norwegian Atle Lie McGrath (+0''44) to secure his 12th World Cup victory.
After having flown through the first round with 88 hundredths of a lead over Atle Lie McGrath, while he had only “not a good feeling” on a track “very icy”Clément Noël was a little more frightened during the second, with a few errors fortunately without cost. “I was quite confident but I had some weird feelings, I made a few mistakes, it was a real fight, but I had a good enough lead in the first round and that’s the most important thing”he analyzed after the race.
His first place ejects his compatriot Steven Amiez from the podium, but the skier from Courchevel kept smiling at the finish. He confirms his good sixth place from the previous week by signing the best performance of his career, just off the podium (4th, +0''60). “I wanted to do everything to be on the podium, but Clément is too strong. He can win every race if he skis like that. I played, I had fun, I made a few mistakes but I am proud of myself and I think it's going to be a great winter”he reacted to the microphone of Eurosport.
Finally, Paco Rassat, third Frenchman entered in the second round, signed his second top 15 in the World Cup, with a 14th place.
