City of Zurich: Template 1 – Direct counter-proposal to the “Affordable Housing for Zurich” initiative

Bild: keystone

That’s what it’s about: The popular initiative “Affordable Housing for Zurich” demanded that the city and its housing foundations buy more properties and land and thus create affordable housing in Zurich. The capital of three of the four municipal housing foundations should therefore be increased by a total of 250 million francs. For the Retirement Apartments Foundation of the City of Zurich (SAW), this should also be tied to the construction of 2,000 new apartments by 2040.

Since the city council and the local council rejected the initiative and developed a direct and indirect counter-proposal, the initiative committee withdrew the initiative. Therefore, only the two counter-proposals will be voted on, but not the initiative.

The direct counter-proposal makes the purchase of properties for affordable housing by the city and its housing foundations a goal in the municipal code. However, it does not set out a specific growth target for SAW.
