AS Saint-Étienne won a very important match against Montpellier HSC (1-0), not without suffering in its Geoffroy-Guichard garden, jostled by an eye-catching MHSC team.
Olivier Dall'Oglio explained in a post-match press conference, Saint-Étienne deliberately played low on the pitch, leaving the ball a little too much to the opponent: “We played low because we know each other and we know our qualities. There is an opponent too: Montpellier, with a player like Savanier who can put the ball wherever he wants in your back. We therefore decided to play low and to hold on. We would have liked to do more offensively and in conservation but I think that the main thing was done. We took the three points, it was very important, the players did what was necessary.
The statistics point in this direction, the MHSC had 67% of ball possession in this meeting. It was therefore the visitors who made the game in the Cauldron. On the other hand, it was Saint-Étienne which was the most dangerous with an additional shot on target and above all three big chances listed by Sofascore against only one in favor of Montpellier.
The saying that domination is not won has once again been verified.
