Votes Zurich: The Gender Star Initiative in the ticker

On paper, the starting position would actually be clear: city council defeats are rare in Zurich.

The last time the city council lost was in September 2022. At that time he supported a SBB housing project on the Neugasse area, but the left-wing resistance was too great, 51.1 percent said no.

The fact that the city government is losing, even though Zurich’s largest party, the SP, also supports a proposal over 10 years ago. In 2013, plans for a municipal football stadium collapsed Hardturmareal (50.8 percent no).

There have been two other such defeats in the last 20 years. 2008, when the city was the organization critical of growth Club of Rome wanted to bring to Zurich (49.1 percent no) and in 2010, when the people of Zurich wanted the 5.9 million francs «Nagelhaus» under the Hardbrücke, better known as “Goldigi Schiissi”.

But the vote on the Gender Star Initiative is something special. Surveys in recent years have shown that citizens are skeptical about the gender star. There was hardly any comparable socio-political coordination in the city of Zurich.

Zurich political observers therefore dare hardly a forecastalthough the starting position would be clear on paper.
