the Prime Minister's popularity rating is crumbling, according to a poll

While the threat of a fall of the government hangs over Michel Barnier, the Prime Minister suffers a drop in the polls. Only 36% of French people say they are satisfied with it.

The French Prime Minister is not on the rise. According to the latest Ifop barometer for the Journal du Dimanche, only 36% of French people say they are satisfied with Michel Barnier. His popularity rating suffered a further decline, since in October, he had 40% favorable opinions, and in September 45%.

Among the most dissatisfied categories, supporters of Insoumise come out on top (80%).

Next come the unemployed (79%), civil servants, workers and supporters of the National Rally (73%).

53% of French people want the government to fall

Despite everything, the tenant of Matignon maintains a better base than the President of the Republic Emmanuel Macron who only collects 22% of favorable opinions. His lowest score since 2017.

While France is undergoing a complicated social context, marked by farmers' demonstrations, or even by the demands of railway workers, 53% of French people say they want the government to fall, indicates another Ipsos study for La Tribune Dimanche.

Starting with the supporters of La France insoumise (88%), the Socialist Party (73%) and the National Rally (67%).

Will Marine Le Pen support the NFP motion of censure?

While Michel Barnier prepares to receive opposition groups in Parliament on Monday, notably Marine Le Pen, the New Popular Front is preparing to table a motion of censure to reject the government budget.

It remains to be seen whether Marine Le Pen will support the left-wing coalition. The leader of the National Rally will only have one word to say: if the motion of censure passes, the government will fall.

In the event of an overthrow of the government, 29% of French people would be ready to reappoint Michel Barnier to Matignon, while 33% of them advocate appointing a new Prime Minister from the ranks of the political parties constituting the “common base”, which supports currently the government of Michel Barnier.

Finally, 38% of French people would like a Prime Minister from the New Popular Front to be appointed, bringing together left-wing political parties.
