In a statement, the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) said that the orange warning (the second most serious on a scale of three) will be in effect between 3am and 9am.
The IPMa also issued a yellow warning (the least serious) for the same areas due to the southwest wind, which will be valid until at least 9 am.
The wind is expected to register gusts of up to 75 kilometers per hour on the south coast of Madeira and up to 100 kilometers per hour in the mountainous regions of the island.
Meanwhile, all of Madeira is currently under yellow warning (the least serious) due to rain, a warning that will continue until midday in most of the archipelago, including the island of Porto Santo.
In the case of the south coast and mountainous regions of the island of Madeira, the yellow warning will be in effect until 3 pm.
The yellow warning is issued whenever there is a risk situation for certain activities depending on the weather situation.
IPMA issues an orange warning whenever there is a moderate to high risk meteorological situation.
