First “planted sticks” for Val Thorens and Tignes. The two Savoyard ski resorts officially opened their slopes, this Saturday, November 23, to the first skiers of this 2024/2025 season.

After several days of snow, the first snow sports enthusiasts were able to enjoy perfect conditions under bright sunshine and winter temperatures. In Tignes, in Haute-Tarentaise, around ten ski lifts came into operation, from 9 a.m. to 4:40 p.m. The Grande Motte cable car remained closed.

The Tignes ski area expects between 3,000 and 4,000 skiers over the entire weekend. While the filling rate of cold beds remains “limit” over these first two days (10% occupancy), the season promises to be rather good for the Savoyard resort, with figures higher than those of last year.

The Val Thorens resort has been working on its opening for several days. The final details were finalized during the day of Friday, November 22, and the estate is now ready to welcome the public until next spring.

In recent days, Europe's highest station has been hit by a cable car accident. A skip, en route to Cime Carron, crashed into the arrival station on Tuesday, November 19, with 16 workers on board. Eight people were injured, two of them seriously. According to the prosecution, this collision could be linked to human error.

Despite this accident, the opening of the estate was not postponed. Access to Cime Carron was not initially planned for the first days of the station's opening.
