The city's Christmas market opens this Saturday, November 23, at 10:30 a.m. with 90 chalets and new activities.
A few more artisans, a solidarity chalet, activities for children. For the second year of the Christmas village in the Peyrou gardens, which opens today at 10:30 a.m., the organizers have added some new features to this end-of-year event.
The market will be divided into three districts: the creative artisan market, the gourmet market and the children's market.
For this edition, the focus is further strengthened on local artisans. Absent last year, the rides for children are back, and a solidarity chalet is also appearing in the middle of the village.
More than 400,000 visitors expected
The official inauguration will take place late Tuesday afternoon just after that of the Christmas tree located in front of the Opéra Comédie.
Last year, the village brought together up to 25,000 people in one day on the weekend, including 6,000 at the same time. In total, just over 417,000 entries were recorded. This year, will the symbolic bar of 450,000 visitors be exceeded? Answer on New Year's Eve.

The return of the rides
Two years after the accident which left two adults injured and several children bruised, three rides will return to the Christmas village. For Alban Zanchiello, assistant for commerce, “the absence was not due to the accident but to the fragility of the place”. The attractions must not exceed the weight of 3.5 tonnes so as not to risk damaging the Peyrou trees.
Setting up a solidarity chalet
Free for the various structures that benefit from it, this chalet will notably allow associations like Shake Mama, this weekend, to showcase their products.
Illuminations from this Tuesday
The Christmas decorations will be lit from this Tuesday, the date of Montpellier's birthday. 84 streets or squares will benefit from these illuminations until January 5. The Charles-de-Gaulle esplanade and the Arc de Triomphe will be lit in particular.
