Despite a reaction in the second half from Brest, Monaco logically won the opening shock of this twelfth day of Ligue 1 (3-2), thanks in particular to a double from Maghnes Akliouche. Adi Hutter's team perfectly prepared for the reception of Benfica in the Champions League while the Finistère team lost Pierre Lees-Melou for the trip to Barcelona.
Between two of the best teams in the Champions League, AS Monaco and Stade Brestois, respectively third and fourth in the continental competition, there was not really a photo. After two home matches without scoring a single goal in Ligue 1, against Lille (0-0), then SCO Angers (0-1), Adi Hutter's team set the record straight with authority, taking advantage of the current mistakes and difficulties outside the Finistère team, which has already conceded its seventh defeat in the league, as many as during its historic last season.
Evening of premieres at the ASM
As before the break, in Montpellier (3-1), Stade Brestois gave the baton to be beaten, conceding an early goal. The ASM made the task easier, thanks to its two kids. Asked on the left side by his friend Maghnes Akliouche, Eliesse Ben Seghir finds him with a perfect cross to the penalty point. The Paris 2024 Olympic vice-champion concludes magnificently by putting his flat right foot in opposition (1-0, 6th), scoring his first goal of the season in Ligue 1. In the process, he misses the break ball, his shot from the closed side finding the post of Marco Bizot (10th), on an opening from Alexandr Golovin. In search of an achievement since last February, the Russian will, in turn, unlock his personal counter this season. Barely coming into play, Edimilson Fernandes had the ball stolen from his 25 meters and the Tsar of ASM took the opportunity to adjust the Dutch goalkeeper of Brest with a strike from 20 meters, with the help of the right post (2 -0, 24th). Despite a few timid chances from Ludovic Majorca (30th) and Julien Le Cardinal (37th), Brest is not there and can thank Breel Embolo for “eating” the score sheet on a back offering from Ben Seghir (45+4th) .
Roy sees red, Lees-Melou relapses
At half-time, Eric Roy decided to replace Romain Del Castillo in the general area with Kamory Doumbia. A profitable choice since “the top” immediately brings its pep and quality on set pieces. On a vintage corner, he places the ball on the head of Abdallah Sima who crosses his head perfectly, to reduce the score (2-1, 50th). Touched, but not sunk, Monaco appeared less dominant, but conceded very few chances. Mama Baldé sends a warhead into the clouds of the Principality (78th) while Fernandes (82nd) and Jordan Amavi (89th) make Robert Majecki shine with long shots, not necessarily dangerous. In the meantime, Georges Ilenikhena, who replaced the ghostly Embolo, came upon Bizot closely. The Franco-Nigerian striker, on the other hand, is perfect in the role of decisive passer, sending Akliouche into orbit, author of the double on a love ball dived from the left (3-1, 91st). Mass is said and Ajorque's angry head changes nothing at the end of the match (3-2, 96th). Monaco resumes the competition perfectly after the international break and is firmly awaiting Benfica Lisbon next Wednesday. Brest suffered a second setback in a row and had a complicated evening despite the score. Eric Roy pulled the pin and saw red on an action which did not deserve to go off the hinges (67th). The Finistère club has, above all, lost Pierre Lees-Melou, visibly injured in the right leg, the one where he had been operated on for a broken fibula in the spring. A hard blow for the great architect of Brestois' exceptional season last year who should miss the trip to Barcelona this Tuesday. Without him, will the Ty'Zefs manage to resist at the Lluis-Companys stadium in Montjuic?
