The French action film “Tigers and Hyenas”, directed by Jérémie Guez, can now be seen exclusively on Prime Video.
Streaming platforms are an excellent springboard for action cinema made in France. The proof with the release this week of Tigers and Hyenas, the brand new production by Jérémie Guez (creator of the BIR series).
The 36-year-old filmmaker has already signed his fourth feature film, after Bluebird, Sons of Philadelphia and Kanun, la loi du sang.
Tigers and Hyenas takes place in the present day, in the world of Parisian organized crime. Malik (Waël Sersoub), a young man with a big heart despite his links to Franco-Spanish drug trafficking networks, attends the trial of his father-in-law Serge Lamy (Vincent Perez).
The latter faces a long prison sentence for a series of robberies during which a police officer lost his life. Malik is offered a strange deal: participating in a dangerous heist in exchange for the release of his father-in-law. Forced to accept the proposal, he finds himself drawn into a hellish and bloody spiral.
Two faces well known to moviegoers are in the casting!
Between an action film and a heist film, Tigers and Hyenas also takes the form of a drama on a human scale. Torn between his loyalty to Serge Lamy, who saved his life during his youth, and the moral conflicts that this operation represents, Malik finds himself gradually overwhelmed by the turn of events.
The performance of young hopeful Waël Sersoub, while restrained, offers a very interesting contrast with the more expressive performance of his playing partner Sofiane Zermani (Enemies Brothers).
Film buffs will be pleased to find Vincent Perez (Cyrano de Bergerac) and Olivier Martinez (The Hussard on the Roof), both credible in unconventional roles as mafiosos.
The plot has the merit of starting from the first minutes of the film. The story moves forward at a brisk pace, at a sustained pace which, however, does not detract from the credibility of the story. The trial of Serge Lamy is quickly moved to the background, while Malik's survival becomes the central theme of the feature film.
Thriller fans will probably find what they're looking for, while action fans will be content with a handful of spectacular scenes. More generally, Tigers and Hyenas offers good entertainment, which should satisfy a large part of the subscribers of the Amazon platform.
