FC Bayern's national players don't get a break. After the international matches, the derby against FC Augsburg awaits on Friday.

Munich – Further, ever further!

Oliver Kahn's most famous saying also applies to the current situation of FC Bayern's national players. After international trips over the past week and a half, the stars have to play in the Bundesliga again on Friday (8.30 p.m., DAZN) – in the Bavarian derby against FC Augsburg.

“That's a lot. We like to be on the pitch. But it’s also really good to have a break,” admits superstar Jamal Musiala, who played with the German national team against Hungary in Budapest on Tuesday evening.

Joshua Kimmich also admits: “Traveling is tiring.” The DFB captain also played for half in Hungary – although he missed the 73rd minute of the Nations League game last Saturday in the 7-0 win against Bosnia-Herzegovina . Minute had to be replaced. However, his damaged left ankle is doing very well again.

Kimmich wouldn't have time for a breather anyway. Due to Joao Palhinha's torn muscle bundle in his adductors and Aleksandar Pavlovic's broken collarbone, which he suffered a few days ago, Bayern coach Vincent Kompany cannot spare anyone in central midfield.

“This is extremely bitter for Joao and us. He has stabilized in the last few games. He was an important factor in us winning the last few games,” said Kimmich about the six-man, who was injured while playing for the Portuguese national team.

First an international match, now FCA: Bayern stars at the limit

Sales candidate Leon Goretzka could therefore make his second starting eleven appearance of the current season in Augsburg. Otherwise, midfielder Konrad Laimer, who has been converted into a right-back at Bayern, could play alongside Kimmich. The intelligent full-back Raphael Guerreiro would also be an option in the center.

The short preparation time between international matches and the game against Augsburg is anything but optimal. Kimmich, for example, already has 22 competitive games under his belt from the start of what is still a relatively young season. The same applies to Minjae Kim.

Minjae Kim is a long-time favorite at Bayern and South Korea

The South Korean, who moved from Italian champions SSC Napoli to Munich in the summer of 2023, has become an integral part of the starting eleven after a mixed debut season at FC Bayern under Kompany. Kim plays extremely well in central defense alongside Dayot Upamecano, and he also impresses those in charge with his play. According to statistics from the International Football Observatory CIES, Kim is currently number one among the best central defenders in Europe's top leagues with a score of 91.1 out of 100.

But the truth is also: 28-year-old Kim has an extremely high workload. Above all, his long national team trips for South Korea – including the time difference – are brutal. Last Thursday, for example, he played in the World Cup qualifiers in Kuwait (3:1), and on Tuesday he also met Palestine in Jordan (1:1). He was supposed to stop by Säbener Strasse on Wednesday afternoon. And ideally play again on Friday. Philipp Kessler, Manuel Bonke
