UFC star Conor McGregor convicted of rape

MMA and UFC star Connor McGregor was found guilty of raping a woman at the High Court in Dublin on Friday. The Irish fighter, 36, will have to pay him nearly 250,000 euros in damages.

The jury at the High Court in Dublin has returned its verdict. This Friday, Conor McGregor was convicted of raping a woman at the Beacon Hotel in the Irish capital on December 9, 2018, report British media. If the latter has always denied the facts suggesting a consensual sexual relationship, the MMA star will have to pay 248,000 euros in damages to the victim, Nikita Hand, who accused McGregor of having “brutally raped and beaten” her after the having been “bedridden and strangled three times”. Absent from the octagon since the summer of 2021 and his defeat against Dustin Poirier, McGregor was due to fight “early 2025”, says UFC boss Dana White.

McGregor friend escapes conviction

The MMA star and the plaintiff occasionally contacted each other on social media. According to the detailed account of the facts before the High Court in Dublin, the latter contacted the fighter, who picked her up and a friend in his car. McGregor then allegedly “flirted” the young woman, who did not want to have sex with him because of her period. Also present in the dock, James Lawrence was not found guilty of sexual assault.

Already prosecuted for attempted sexual assault and sexual exhibition, in September 2020 in Corsica (case dismissed) Conor McGregor faces another charge. On the sidelines of the 2023 NBA Finals between the Heat and the Nuggets, the 36-year-old fighter allegedly raped a woman in the toilets of the Kaseya Center, the Miami venue. Allegations denied by McGregor's clan.
