The first snowy episode of the year took place as expected on Thursday November 21, 2024. The storm Caetano crossed metropolitan from West to East, ending its path above the Haut-Rhin.

For this reason, Météo France has placed the department in vigilance orange for ice and snow yesterday. The warning was repeated for this Friday, November 22.

A quieter weekend

According to Weather France“most of the snow episode is over. At the end of the night from Thursday to Friday, temperatures sometimes dropped sharply in snow-covered areas. At 8 a.m., they are still very cold, generally between -3 to -9 degrees on snow-covered ground. These negative temperatures cause wet and snow-covered roads to refreeze, potentially making them very slippery, hence an extension of the orange alert until midday on Friday. In the morning, a few snow showers still cross the departments from west to east, potentially bringing 1 to 2 cm of additional snow in places.

They add that: “This afternoon, the snow showers continue to circulate, potentially bringing 1 to 2 cm of additional snow locally on the plains, and 5 to 10 cm on the relief. Refreezing will form again during the night from Friday to Saturday, particularly on areas that remain snow-covered. »

Vigilance will pass from orange to yellow during the day on Friday.
