NATO and Ukraine will meet on Tuesday in Brussels to discuss Russia's hypersonic ballistic missile launch on Ukraine, according to diplomatic sources.

This meeting, at the request of kyiv, will take place at the ambassadorial level.

Russia used an intermediate-range ballistic missile (up to 5,500 km) on Ukrainian territory, designed to carry a nuclear warhead, first denounced by kyiv as the firing of an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM). ).

The deployment of this type of weaponry “will not change the course of the conflict nor the determination of NATO allies to support Ukraine,” NATO spokesperson Farah Dakhlallah said Thursday evening in a statement. press release.

Unprecedented shot

“Russia launched an experimental medium-range ballistic missile against Ukraine. This is another example of Russia's attacks on Ukrainian cities. Russia seeks to terrorize the civilian population in Ukraine and intimidate those who support the country, she explained.

This unprecedented shot followed two strikes carried out in recent days by Ukraine on Russian territory using American ATACMS and British Storm Shadow missiles, weapons with a range of approximately 300 km.

American President Joe Biden, who had long refused to do so, authorized these strikes on Russian territory with American weapons on Sunday, despite warnings from Russia which had brandished the nuclear threat.

A “world war” according to Putin

Russian President Vladimir Putin said Thursday that the conflict in Ukraine now had all the makings of a “world” war and warned that he did not rule out striking Western countries.

“We consider ourselves within our rights to use our weapons against the military installations of countries that authorize the use of their weapons against our installations,” he added.
