The major annual meeting of the Association of Mayors of France (AMF) was held from Tuesday November 19 to Thursday November 21, at the Oorte de Versailles exhibition center, in Paris.
With this year's theme, “The commune… fortunately!”, this unmissable event of territorial democracy, shows through its dynamism (more than forty debates, forums and information points), the mobilization of mayors in the service of their fellow citizens . In this period of uncertainty and political instability and against a backdrop of degraded economic and social situation, the mayor, Cédric Plichard went to Paris to participate in this major demonstration of local democracy. Interview.
Is this your first conference?
Yes, my schedule did not allow me to do so in previous years, and I wanted to be present at the congress this year, especially given this difficult and fragile situation.
For you, what are the interests of such a gathering?
For me, there are mainly two. Firstly, the congress is a wonderful time for meetings and conviviality with all my colleagues. We can freely exchange our common experiences and our respective problems. We also took advantage of this opportunity to demonstrate against the government's policy with our scarves, in relation to the announced budgetary restrictions. Secondly, the congress allows us to research and find concrete solutions for our municipalities and intercommunity, in material terms and various services.
In conclusion ?
It was a busy stay. I especially remember the richness of the meetings with my mayoral counterparts and the profusion of offers as well as the creativity of the companies present. But unfortunately I couldn't see everything. So I hope to come back next year…
