The International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants for the Israeli Prime Minister on Thursday Benjamin Netanyahuthe former Israeli defense minister Yoav Gallant and the head of the armed wing of Hamas Mohammed Deif.
“The Chamber issued arrest warrants for two individuals, Mr. Benjamin Netanyahu and Mr. Yoav Gallant, for crimes against humanity and war crimes committed from at least October 8, 2023 until May 20, 2024. less, day the prosecution filed the requests for arrest warrants”the ICC, which sits in The Hague, said in a statement, adding in another statement that a warrant was also issued against Mohammed Deif. The latter, military leader of Hamas, was announced as dead by Israel on August 1. He was reportedly eliminated during a July 13 strike.
In a first reaction to this ICC decision, Israel accused the Criminal Court on Thursday of having “lost all legitimacy” with its “absurd” arrest warrants.
