Saoirse Ronan wants to make history in James Bond franchise – – Entertainment

Saoirse Ronan, celebrated for her commanding performances in historical films, is eyeing a groundbreaking turn in the James Bond saga. Bond was most recently portrayed by Daniel Craig. As Saoirse puts it with enthusiasm: “I would love to do an action film next! I want to play a Bond villain.”

This ambition marks her potential entry into an illustrious roster of memorable foes within the 60-year-old series, including Rami Malek’s recent role as Lyutsifer Safin in “No Time to Die.”

Yet, despite its longevity and diverse cast of villains, a female has never taken the helm as the central antagonist.

In conversation with The Talks, Ronan, known for her portrayal in Little Women, mused on her frequent casting in bygone eras, remarking, “It is true that I don’t get to do modern-day as much as I would like. It’s just been coincidence really, that I’ve done quite a few period pieces.”

However, she relishes the possibility of genre-hopping, explaining the allure: “There’s just a freedom that you have where you don’t have to filter anything out. I don’t have to double-check to make sure that something is accurate for the time or if there were certain mannerisms or words that hadn’t even been invented yet.

On the Happy, Sad, Confused podcast, she shared her decision to turn down a significant Marvel character to chase Bond ambitions: “I can’t see myself doing Marvel. I don’t…no, I would prefer to do Bond,” Ronan candidly revealed.

Moreover, during an interview with The Sun, she openly campaigned to be considered for a role in the Bond universe, stating: “I’ve always said that I want to play a Bond villain. I’d really love to do that. I’m serious, I would. If anyone knows Barbara Broccoli, please tell her,” displaying a light-hearted approach to her aspirations.

Saoirse even sees potential for James Lowden, her spouse, as the next 007.

While co-presenting on BBC Radio 2 alongside Edith Bowman, she affirmed: “There’s time, there’s time.”
