Météo- forecasters have placed 31 departments on orange alert for the risk of snow and ice for the day of Thursday, November 21.

Traffic conditions promise to be difficult in a large part of France. In its latest weather forecast at 1 p.m. this Thursday, Météo-France placed 31 departments on orange alert for the risk of snow and ice for this Thursday.

In detail, Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, Hautes-Alpes, Aube, , Cher, Côte-d'Or, , Eure, Eure-et-Loir, Loir-et-Cher, , Manche, Haute-, Mayenne, Nièvre, Orne, Haut-Rhin, Haute-Saône, , , Seine-Maritime, Seine-et-Marne, , Vosges, Yonne, Territoire de , Essonne, Hauts-de-Seine, Seine-Saint-Denis, Val-de-Marne and Val-d’Oise.

Up to 20 cm of snow depending on the region

“Storm CAETANO crosses France from west to east and generates a major air mass conflict (…) Snowfall down to the plains is expected until the evening of Thursday, between northern /, Center- Val-de-, Ile-de-France, Burgundy, Franche-Comté and Alsace,” recalled the organization in its latest weather bulletin.

“We often expect 5 to 10 cm in the plains, locally up to 20 cm from the first heights between Normandy, Center, Burgundy and southern Alsace. These snowfalls will be accompanied by a fairly strong easterly wind over lower Normandy, causing snowdrifts to form in places, particularly towards Perche,” Météo-France continued.

“In Ile-de-France, we expect 1 to 5 cm in general, and 5 to 10 cm in the south of the region. Snowfall is also expected at low altitude in the Southern Alps: 5 to 10 cm around 400m altitude, 15 to 30 cm around 800m and sometimes 60 cm around 2000m,” concluded the reference organization.
