4 food and wine pairings to try with your Beaujolais Nouveau
It is a mistake to talk about just one Beaujolais Nouveau. In reality, two namesnamely the beaujolais and the beaujolais-villagesproduce this famous wine, traditionally delivered on the third Thursday of November at midnight precisely, in France and throughout the world.
Depending on the terroirs, but also the winemaking choices, the primeur has a different aromatic profile. There have even been Beaujolais Nouveaux Rosés since 2007! So let's see what dishes can accompany your glass of Beaujolais, this November 21, 2024… and even after!
Lyonnaise charcuterie, the essential
No need to insist on separating two products that go hand in hand. Beaujolais Nouveau are nectars largely focused on fruit, which go wonderfully with the texture of the pork and the fat of the Lyon products : rosette, Jesus of Lyon, sausage of Lyon…
Take your indulgence even further at the bistro by opting for a brioche sausage. Beaujolais Nouveau should be served chilled, at a temperature between 10° and 11°.
Regional specialties, the safe bet
To achieve a successful pairing with Beaujolais Nouveau, the simplest thing is to draw from the traditional recipes of the region where the wine is produced, stretching until the Burgundy.
THE poached eggs en meurette will be delicious, because the base of the recipe is a fruity red wine reduced to syrup. THE Burgundy snails are also suitable if cooked with garlic.
The sapper aprona Lyon specialty concocted with tripe, is another successful idea, just like the essential Lyonnaise saladmade from chicken liver, sheep trotters, hard-boiled eggs and herring.
Crayfish tails and sardines, happy attempts
Seafood goes more easily with white wines. However, a few exceptions will surprise purists, as long as they are well chosen.
The fish must have a strong taste for the pairing to work. The tail gratincrayfishotherwise a sardine or herring salad can be a solution.
Pears in wine, the good idea
For dessert, don't be afraid to use the new one as an ingredient for a very fruity preparation.
THE pearswhose season is in full swing, can be poached in Beaujolais to draw in and imbibe the aromas of the wine.
Top the fruit with a little crushed crepe lace, otherwise sprinkle with a little spice, such as cinnamon.
Offer a hot chocolate sauce. And that’s it!
Our selection of Beaujolais Nouveau 2024 to taste
Year after year, Bad tongues like to denigrate Beaujo', which will, according to them, have a banana taste or a strawberry scent. However, this 2024 vintage may still have some good surprises in store for you.. As in 2021 (with frost), 2022 and 2023 (drought), the year 2024 was once again marked by very difficult climatic conditions with hail in the spring, a lot of rain before (finally!) a warmer and sunny in August. So many elements which tend to suggest that the quality of the wine should be there… more than the quantity!
In terms of taste, the 2024 vintages should be lighter than those of the previous fall. But this year more than others, it is the variety of flavors that surprised us. Since we were able to preview several vintages of this Beaujolais Nouveau 2024, we can confirm that there is something for everyone!
We still regularly find fruity notes (blackcurrant, blackberry, raspberry), but with wines that are often very balanced, especially from the Beaujolais villages, with the cuvée A Coeur Joie from the Bernard Jomain estatea historic figure in Rhone wine since 1990.
Far from the very (too) colorful labels of certain early wines, we also like the elegance of a wine like Beaujolais Villages Sans Sulfur from Domaine des Nuguesbut our favorite goes to a sure value of the region, the first of the Pizay Castlemore subtle and balanced than its little comrades.
Finally, for those who like the humorous bottles often produced on this occasion, the New from Domaine Bertrand is a pretty beaujo made for superheroes: a typical vintage, fruity but not too much, ideal for an aperitif and a convivial meal!
These Beaujolais Nouveau 2024 are available on November 21, 2024 at your wine merchant, in supermarkets and on sites like Vinatis or Vivino.
