Even weakened Bheki causes swell and strong wind in

Bheki has clearly weakened. It is at the filling depression stage that the system passes south of this Thursday, November 21, 2024. At 10 a.m., it was 170 km from the Reunion side. It causes “a slight deterioration in the weather, without significant effects for the island” indicates Météo . Meteorologists have, however, issued a yellow wave-submersion warning for the east, south-east and south of Reunion and a yellow strong wind warning for the west and east of the island from 9 a.m. (Photo sly/ www.imazpress.com)

Bheki is therefore no longer a cyclone or even a storm. It is “a rather weakened system which should circulate near the Grandes Mascareignes archipelago (Mauritius and Reunion) on a trajectory oriented towards the west-southwest” indicates Météo France.

“A very moderate influence of the system is expected on the island until Friday,” add the meteorologists.

– A gloomy and rainy day in the wake of Bheki –

The most degraded conditions associated with the system will be concentrated in its southern and eastern part.

If “the system arrives in a relatively weakened manner on Reunion, this does not prevent having degraded weather and a relatively gloomy and rainy day on the southern half, that is to say south of a Saint-Leu line / Cilaos / Sainte-Rose”, detail the forecasts.

The volcano massif and the Tévelave sector receive the most water. Elsewhere, “over a small northern half, the sky will remain less threatening and sometimes bright, with a feeling of humidity on the side of the northern coast sheltered from the wind”.

Over the following days, Bheki should evacuate towards the South as it continues to weaken.

– Bheki causes swell in Reunion –

In the west and east, gusts of around 80 km/h, sometimes even a little more near Gros Piton Sainte-Rose, are expected.

Last impacting element: “a strongly degraded sea state from Cap Chevron to Champ Borne, via Pointe de la Tables, under the effect of an easterly swell which sometimes rises to around 4 meters until the evening , giving very heavy seas” warns Météo France.

– Mauritius still on alert for strong swells –

Although Bheki reached the intense cyclone stage on November 17, the system did not benefit from conditions favorable to its maintenance. Reunion therefore remains largely spared, with an extremely moderate effect on climatic conditions.

A warning of heavy swell and heavy rain still concerns Mauritius.
