Winter is knocking at the door of the Rhône! As temperatures flirt with zero and the first snowflakes fall on the heights of Beaujolais this Wednesday, November 20, the question everyone is asking is: will it snow this Thursday? The answer is yes, but don't take out your sleds just yet.
Ephemeral flakes in the morning
The snow disturbance should arrive around 9/10 a.m. in the department. “We could have snowflakes all the way to the plains with the cold,” announces Gabriel Chantrel, forecaster at Weather France. However, do not panic for the Lyonnais: the snow should not last at low altitude, particularly in the Val de Saône or the city center of Lyon.
Lovers of snowy landscapes will have to look to the heights. “We could have a few centimeters, occasionally, in the mountains. Particularly those of Beaujolais,” specifies the forecaster. But don't wait to take advantage of it, because a massive mild spell is expected from midday, transforming these flakes into rain at all altitudes in the department.
Orange alert: the wind invites itself to the party
If the snow will only be short-lived, it is the wind, with the passage of the Caetano depression, which risks making an impression. The Rhône is placed on orange alert for this windy episode forecast for the afternoon and evening. Gusts could exceed 100 km/h, both in the Lyon plains and in the mountains.
This day will mark the start of a short “winter” period. A few flakes could still appear during the night from Thursday to Friday, without significant consequences. Lovers of mild weather will have to wait until Saturday afternoon to see the mercury rise and say goodbye to this brief episode of cold.
