« Pour prevent the risk of falling et ensure the safety of passers-byin addition to the measures put in place by the services as part of the snow and ice plan”, the City of Rennes has issued a municipal decree which determines the obligations imposed on local residents.

Indeed, the department of Ille-et-Vilaine is placed on orange snow-ice alert by Météo France, Thursday November 21, from 6 a.m. In Rennes, “it will depend on the degree,” explained Yann Amice, meteorologist, to news RennesWednesday evening.

So, here are the obligations of Rennes residents:

• In the event of snow or ice, residents must sweep and scrape the sidewalk across its entire widthor over a width of 2 meters in the absence of a sidewalk. That along the entire length of the facade of the building. Passages must be provided to access the entrance to buildings.
• In icy weather the spreading of sand, salt or “de-icing” products is the responsibility of local residents. However, it is prohibited to spread salt on areas planted with trees.

These provisions concern all public roads and their dependencies as well as private roads open to public traffic.

Additional vigilance for cyclists

The “winter viability” plan does not does not provide for the treatment of cycling facilities. The main bus lines and services to emergency centers are given priority.
