TER, TGV, Intercités… Are you concerned by the disruptions planned for this Thursday in transport?

This Thursday, November 21, 2024, the SCNF announced a strike on its trains. What will be the disruptions on the TER, TGV or even Intercités?

This Thursday, November 21, 2024 may be complicated for a certain number of French people. Météo- has placed 49 departments on orange alert, 32 for the risk of snow and ice and the others for violent winds. But in addition to complicated weather conditions, transport will be disrupted by an SNCF strike on the TER, TGV or even Intercités.

Unions have called for a renewable strike, raising fears of problems for travelers during the end-of-year holidays. Some are therefore delighted with the Christmas bonus but worried about the idea of not being able to join their loved ones for New Year's Eve. But what will happen this week? Transport disruptions this November 21

According to SNCF Voyageurs, the traffic estimates for November 19 are modified today: 7 TER out of 10 should roll. As for Ile-de-France, disruptions will be limited. It is the RER D which should be the most affected, as well as the Transilien line R. These latter are the “strongholds of the Sud-Rail union” according to Actu.fr. Ile-de-France residents will therefore only have one train in three on these lines. The RER B will have one train out of two. The RER C will have two trains out of three. And the RER E will have three trains out of approximately four. For the Transilien (except lines J and U) and trams as well as RER A, traffic will be normal.

The motivations for the SNCF strike

This SNCF strike is motivated by the dismantling of Fret SNCFan agreement signed between the government and the European Commission, but also the opening of transport to competition. The CGT, Sud Rail, the CFDT and the UNSA gave their demands on November 5.

They wrote in a statement: “We will not let the bandwagon of the liquidation of Fret SNCF, the privatization of TER, Transilien and Intercités activities and the breakup of SNCF Réseau pass by without doing anything”. Their objective would be to “lose fast” facing what they call a “carnage social”. It remains to be seen whether the strike will be widely followed, including at Christmas time and the next school holidays. An ultimatum is launched and if their demands (stopping the FRET discontinuity process and obtaining a moratorium, stopping the TER, Transilien and Intercités filiation process, and multi-year programming law for the modernization of the rail system) are not listened to , a stronger and longer movement will begin in December.
